The Ministry of Education welcomed the 2026/2027 school year with its “Steps for Education” Walk, bringing together students, teachers, and Ministry officials for a morning focused on fitness, healthy living and positive school communities.

The walk began at the Ministry’s Brickdam office and continued along the designated route before concluding with a physical education session at the Ministry Ground on Carifesta Avenue.

Minister of Education, the Honourable Sonia Parag, praised the enthusiasm of students from across the education system and underscored the importance of physical activity in supporting students’ overall health and well-being.

The Distance Education Unit (DEU) was also well represented, with staff members joining colleagues from across the Ministry in the walk. Their participation reflected the Unit’s commitment to teamwork, healthy lifestyles and overall well-being, while supporting the Ministry’s wider efforts to build a positive and supportive education community.

The event also promoted the Ministry’s anti-bullying and anti-violence message through an awareness booth, encouraging students to recognise bullying, understand its impact and promote positive behaviour in their schools and communities.

Held as part of Education Month 2026, under the theme “From Classrooms to Communities, Education Transforms Lives,” the walk highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to an education system that goes beyond academics to nurture healthy, confident and responsible young people.
