Yesterday, the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) hosted a comprehensive English Clinic at the historic Umana Yana compound, aiming to improve young children’s understanding of the English language.

The initiative, which brought together English specialists and teachers from various schools across Guyana, was designed in response to a concerning decrease in the country’s CSEC English pass rate, which fell from 72 percent in 2023 to 69 percent in 2024.
The clinic featured interactive sessions, workshops, and practical exercises led by experienced educators, allowing students from both secondary and primary schools around Guyana to sharpen their language skills.
This effort underscores the Ministry of Education’s commitment to addressing the current challenges in English performance and ensuring that students across Guyana are equipped with the necessary tools to succeed academically.
The event marks an important step towards fostering improved English proficiency among students, with the hope that such initiatives will contribute to a higher pass rate in the coming years.
