Over the last three days, Guyana’s Minister of Education, the Honourable Priya Manickchand, has been attending the Board meeting for the Global Partnership of Education (GPE) on which she sits as a board member from the Latin America and Caribbean Community. The Minister was elected to the Board last year. The meeting was held in Berlin, Germany.
GPE is the largest global fund solely dedicated to transforming education in lower-income countries, and a unique, multi-stakeholder partnership. They work to deliver quality education so that every girl and boy can have hope, opportunity and agency.
The responsibilities of the Board include reviewing performance of key strategic initiatives that are core to GPE’s goals, considering the key risks that can derail those goals, adapting and adjusting its business model and platforms as warranted.
At this meeting, the Board made many important decisions including its strategic plan for 2030, mobilizing financing for education and its role in preventing gender based and other violence in schools, as well as measuring children’s learning effectively.
Accompanying Minister Manickchand as the focal point person on the Board for the said Latin American and Caribbean region was Ms. Tonnica Dey, Chief Planning Officer at the Ministry of Education.
