Grade 9 classes claim top spots in Tucville Secondary’s Classroom Competition

Written by on October 3, 2025

Two grade nine and one grade seven classes at the Tucville Secondary School won the top spots during their first school classroom competition, held on October 1, 2025.

Judges Ronella Harris, Christine London, Candida Bradford and Jason Frank saw a total of 14 classes that participated in the competition. Of the two grade sevens, three grade eights, three grade nines, four grade tens, and two grade elevens, Grade Nine Emerald secured first place with 66 points, followed by Grade Nine Diamond with a total of 65.25 points and Grade Seven Diamond gained third place with 58.5 points.

The classroom score rubric included criteria for decor and creativity, signs and labels, educational and administrative corners, and classroom layout and arrangement.

The judges were escorted to each class by Sir Marlon Agrippa, who asked the students questions while the judges observed the classrooms. The classrooms were well-decorated with teaching aids for Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies, and included a sanitation corner and a reading corner, among other creative areas. The students were seen to be gainfully occupied, either reading books or completing exercises given to them by their teacher.

Upon observation, some of the classrooms had images of President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Phillips and the newly appointed Minister of Education Sonia Parag.

The students and their teachers dived into their creative skills with one class showcasing a Mathematics Robot with its body divided using various fractions while other classrooms had a corner dedicated for both religious and motivational quotes.

Setting Grade Nine Diamond apart from the other classrooms in the judges’ eyes was their skill in integrating popular social media apps and motivational quotes to boost student morale. The classroom’s door welcomed the onlookers with decor of icons of several social media apps, a cellphone and a quote which said, “There’s an app for that; apply yourself.”

The Ministry of Education applauds this initiative and continues to encourage creativity and innovation amongst students and teachers in schools. Congratulations to the teachers and students of Tucville Secondary School for a smooth execution of the activity.
