The Women Empowerment program on Tuesday evening interviewed five Queen’s College students who represented Guyana at the inaugural CSF 2023 Caribbean STEM Olympiad walked away with third place (silver medal) and a monetary prize.

The students are Zionara Lawrence – Team leader, Aquila Whyte, Nikhel Persaud, Yeshua Hutson and Mahir Rajkumar.

‘Tweak Titans’, as they called themselves, competed in Level One Robotics.

The CSF Olympiad is a project that seeks to enhance the quality of secondary and tertiary science education in the Caribbean.
In this version of the competition, students participated in Math Olympiads, Computer Coding Games and a Robotics Showcase.

Participants were categorized into 2 levels based on their age, Level one consisting of students from 12 to 15 years and Level Two consisting of students of ages 16 to 19.

While most of the students only joined the STEM Club at the school specifically for this competition, a few already had experience with robotics.

They thanked their teachers and representatives of STEM Guyana for encouraging them to participate in the competition, and for providing critical support to be successful.

One of the teachers who accompanied the students on the Women EmPOWERment show was Ms Hortencia DaSilva, who served as the team’s supervisor.

She commended the students for their hard work and commitment to the task and credited their success to the high level of team spirit and enthusiasm they displayed from the beginning to the end.

This batch of five is encouraging other students from all across Guyana to take advantage of educational opportunities and participate in extra-curricular activities to develop a more diverse character.

Women Empowerment hosts, Ramona Luthi and Martina Johnson, were happy to have these talented teens in the studio. The program remains committed to educating, empowering and elevating its listeners by providing a platform to discuss and learn about opportunities available for every Guyanese.
