For more than three decades, Ingrid Maxine Baird has been a dedicated and integral member of the NCERD and later EdYouFM team, contributing technical skill, institutional knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to educational broadcasting in Guyana.

Miss Ingrid began her career in 1993, working in the Print Unit at what was then the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). It was during this early stage that she demonstrated the curiosity, discipline, and drive that would characterise her entire professional journey.

She later transitioned into the Audio/Technical Unit, where she trained on the job as an audio technician at the National Communications Network (NCN). Over time, she became solely responsible for editing programs for the Broadcast to Schools Unit. Her meticulous work ensured that students and teachers received clear, high-quality audio content.

Throughout her years of service, Miss Ingrid worked alongside several notable figures in the broadcast and education fields, contributing to teams that shaped the evolution of the unit as it relocated and adapted to new technologies and demands. Her consistency, reliability, and dedication to her craft earned her deep respect from colleagues.

Perhaps the most admirable quality about Miss Ingrid is her childlike curiosity and her continuous pursuit of knowledge. She doesn’t hesitate to ask questions and is always receptive to new information and perspectives. Miss Ingy also enjoys a good trivia game. She always listened keenly to The Lunch Break’s riddle of the day and Guyanese History segment, and was a favourite on the Afternoon 360’s Best Guess. As a further testament to her curiosity and eagerness to learn, at around age 50, after decades of service, Miss Ingrid sat the CSEC examinations, earning Grade I in Mathematics and Grade II in English.

Miss Ingrid is also loved for her warmth and humility. She has an inviting aura about her, always greeting you with a cheerful, “Hi dearie!” When bidding farewell to Miss Ingrid, it’s never “goodbye” but always “safe journey”, and when she learned a little Spanish, “¡Buen viaje!”

Ingrid Maxine Baird represents continuity, progress, professionalism, and diligence within NCERD and EdYouFM. Her 30 years of excellence behind the scenes have supported generations of learners and educators across Guyana.
