Written by on November 19, 2024

This International Men’s Day, we shine a spotlight on Mr. Colwyn Delph, Education Officer (Secondary), whose journey serves as a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and hard work. Through his dedication to education and leadership, Mr. Delph has made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students and educators.

Colwyn’s inspiration to pursue a career in education was deeply rooted in the transformative power of teachers in his own life. Growing up, he was shaped by the unwavering support and encouragement of educators, most notably his mother. Their belief in his potential opened his eyes to the greatness within himself and sparked a desire to make similar investments in the lives of others. “The investment of their time to inspire growth inspired me to make a similar investment in people’s lives,” he shared. This journey has not only deepened his empathy and resilience but also shaped him into a lifelong learner, dedicated to service and problem-solving.

As a male leader in education, Colwyn acknowledges the importance of balancing professional demands with personal well-being. For him, self-care is essential and takes the form of journaling, spending quality time with his family, and participating in church activities. By staying organized and intentional with his schedule, he ensures that he can meet his professional responsibilities while nurturing his own health and happiness.

However, the path has not been without challenges. One significant hurdle has been addressing stereotypes about male leaders in education, particularly the expectation to always exude strength and decisiveness. Colwyn has overcome these challenges by embracing authenticity, fostering collaboration, and leading with humility. “By being transparent about my challenges and fostering a team-first mentality, I’ve built trust and created a culture where everyone’s contributions are valued,” he explained.

For men aspiring to make an impact in education or other fields, Colwyn’s advice is simple yet profound: Be authentic. “Leadership is most effective when it comes from a place of genuine care,” he emphasized. He encourages men to reject traditional molds of masculinity and leadership, instead prioritizing empathy, vulnerability, and continuous learning. Relationship-building and investing in the growth of others are key to creating a lasting legacy.

When it comes to changing societal norms around health and self-care, Colwyn believes men in leadership positions have a critical role to play. By prioritizing their own well-being and modeling self-care practices, they can normalize conversations about mental health and drive cultural shifts toward wellness. “It’s about creating environments where wellness is a priority, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” he stated.

Mr. Colwyn Delph exemplifies what it means to be a leader, a mentor, and an advocate for positive change. His unwavering dedication to education and personal growth makes him a true Men’s Health Champion—an inspiration to all.
