Under the glare of floodlights and the hum of an expectant crowd, Chase’s Academic Foundation delivered a commanding performance to secure the 2026 Massy Distribution U18 Schools Football title, defeating Santa Rosa Secondary 5-0 in a one-sided but electrifying final on Saturday evening.
Played at the Ministry of Education Ground, the 12th annual tournament reached a fitting climax as Chase asserted their dominance early and never looked back, turning the final into a showcase of clinical finishing, disciplined structure, and attacking flair.
From the opening whistle, Chase’s Academic Foundation controlled the tempo, pressing high and capitalizing on space with precision. Their attacking unit proved relentless, breaking through Santa Rosa’s defense repeatedly to build an unassailable lead. Despite moments of resistance, Santa Rosa Secondary struggled to contain the pace and fluidity of their opponents, ultimately falling to a side that peaked at the right moment.

Earlier in the day, West Ruimveldt Secondary secured third place after edging Charlestown Secondary in a tense penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
The tournament, which ran from March 21 to May 2, featured more than 60 teams from across the country, continuing its reputation as one of the premier platforms for youth football development. Organized by the Petra Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and supported by Demerara Mutual Life Insurance, the competition continues to bridge sport, discipline, and education.
Beyond the action on the field, the final also carried a strong message of social responsibility. In a show of unity and leadership, team captains participated in an anti-bullying and school dropout awareness initiative, reinforcing the tournament’s broader developmental goals.
The significance of the event was underscored by key government representatives, including Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs; Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Sarah Browne-Shadeek; Minister of Housing, Colin Croal; and Marti DeSouza, Deputy Chief Education Officer for Amerindian and Hinterland Education Development, representing the Ministry of Education.
In remarks delivered on behalf of the Ministry of Education, DeSouza emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive, quality education across Guyana, particularly in hinterland communities, while highlighting the critical role sport plays alongside academics in shaping well-rounded students. Minister Jacobs reaffirmed the government’s continued support for youth development through sport, pledging ongoing collaboration with organizations such as Petra.
