Written by on August 14, 2025

As part of its mission to make education accessible to all, EdYouFM, under the stewardship of the Ministry of Education, continues to champion inclusive learning opportunities for migrant students. One such initiative is the recently concluded English for Spanish Speakers workshop at Port Kaituma Secondary School.

The 5-day workshop, led by the passionate and dedicated Mrs. Latoya Atwell, catered to 22 students, ages 12-16. According to Mrs. Atwell, “This workshop was mainly to target Spanish migrants and to help them become more involved and incorporated into the education system in Guyana,” Mrs. Atwell guided the students through fundamental English grammar concepts, including, the plural, singular of words and verb tenses, namely the simple present, the simple past, and the present continuous tenses. The Spanish teacher was impressed and inspired by the students’ eagerness to learn. She said, “It was quite enjoyable because I’ve made an impact.”

This English for Spanish Speakers workshop is one of the many ways EdYouFM makes education more accessible and further empowers our nation’s learners.
